My Body

A running playlist is so important to motivate you to push yourself up that last killer hill and can inspire you on a regular tuesday morning at 6am to give much more than you thought possible as you were reluctantly rolling out of bed.

Previously I didn't give much thought to my playlist and listened to Adele's albums on repeat sining along with every song. I enjoy her music very much but it is not exactly pump up tunes. As JP started training for the triathlon he made a perfectly timed playlist of music that follows our regular 7km morning run. When I gave it a try I was amazed at the power a song could have.

Running is a metal battle with yourself most of the time, so having songs that match the feeling of running down and hill and then meet the challenge of going back up is powerful.

My Body by Young the Giant was essential to me pushing through the last couple kilometres on a back to back running day. I frowned at the hill that seems to go on forever and is there every time with the same pain and exhaustion. But this morning I had a secret weapon. I had the perfect song that picked up my legs and filled my lungs so I could power right over the top and into a sprint home.

My body tells me no
 But I won't quit
Cause I want more
Cause I want more
 My body tells me no
But I won't quit
Cause I want more
Cause I want more

For anyone who has not heard of this band, they are an American alternative rock band. I would compare their sounds and image to that of the Killers. The song My Body, is their anthemic first single released from the self titled debut album in 2011. Cough Syrup the second single was featured on GLEE and Apartment is the newest release.

  1. Give a listen to Fort Minor- Remember the name, its a pretty good beat and lyrical message for workouts/running.
